David Ian Hewlett was born on April 18, 1968 in Redhill. He comes from a large family (five sisters) and strict parents.

His father, Patrick Hewlett, is a gynecologist and his mother, Mary Hewlett, is a nurse. In 1972, the Hewlett moved to Canada.

David is a fan of science fiction and even declares himself geek. After high school, he embarked on the acting profession and led a good career before and after Stargate Atlantis.

David Ian Hewlett is a Canadian actor and director born April 18, 1968 in Redhill, England. He is best known for his role as Rodney McKay in the television series Stargate Atlantis and in Stargate films: Continuum and Stargate: the ark of truth. Hewlett began his career as an actor in the 1980s, playing in theatrical and television productions in Canada. He also worked as a director, screenwriter and producer.

Hewlett was raised in Toronto, Canada, where he studied at the City Dramatic Art School. He started his career as an actor in 1985, playing in the television series The Edison Twins. He then played in many other Canadian television productions, notably Street Legal, E.N.G., North of 60, the Nikita woman and traders.

In 2004, Hewlett obtained the role of Rodney McKay in the Stargate Atlantis television series. He played in all the episodes of the series until his end in 2009, and also played in Stargate films: Continuum and Stargate: the ark of truth. In 2007, he was nominated for a Gemini Award (the Canadian Emmy Awards equivalent) in the "Best actor in a main role in a dramatic role" for his role as McKay.

In addition to his work as an actor, Hewlett is also a talented director and screenwriter. He made several short films and has written and produced independent films. He also worked as an executive producer on the television series The Pinkertons.

In his personal life, Hewlett is married to actress Jane Loughman, with whom he has two children. He also has a son of a previous relationship. Hewlett is passionate about science fiction and technology, and he is also an accomplished musician. He also likes to travel and has visited many countries around the world.
