Biography for Ken Olin

His dark, sincere good looks were steadily put to use on the small screen during the 80s, but, in retrospect, actor Ken Olin will probably be considered more of a major force behind the camera. Born in Chicago, Ken went to the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and headed for Hollywood in the late 70s. After the typical route of bit parts, he started moving up in leaps and bounds on TV's top shows. A couple of strong, single season regular parts on both "Hill Street Blues" and "Falcon Crest" ultimately led to his casting as the introspective and quietly sexy Michael Steadman on "thirtysomething" in 1987, which ran for four seasons and nabbed numerous awards for its liberal writing and sensitive content. Ken co-starred with wife Patricia Wettig on the show, but the multi-Emmy winner Wettig did not play Ken's wife (actress Mel Harris did) and the public was often confused as to who Ken's wife really was. Ken also earned the chance to direct occasionally on "thirtysomething" and this would have a significant impact as to the direction of his career in the years to come. Following "thirtysomething," Ken pursued acting work in mini-movies as both hero ("Police Story: Cop Killer") and villain ("Dead by Sunset"), but almost always seemed on the verge of leaving acting altogether. It was his burgeoning interest in directing that took over, and he has since found steady helming duties on such popular shows as "Felicity" and "The West Wing." His TV drama "Doin' Time on Maple Drive" was nominated for three Emmys.

Ken Olin was born on July 30, 1954 in Chicago. After literary studies at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, he tried his artistic luck on the side of Hollywood in the late 1970s. He won his first TV role in 1979 with Woman at West Point and his first film in 1981 with Ghost Story (J.IRVIN). The following year, he married actress Patricia Wettig, with whom he will have a boy named Clifford and a girl Roxanne.

In 1984, he was fortunate to integrate the regular cast of the successful police series, Captain Furillo. If there is only one season left, it is because it is engaged for the following season in the Falcon Crest series! An actor who became popular, he then worked for 4 years with his wife on the Génération Pub series (1987 - 1991), who met with great success (he was appointed to the Golden Globes 1990 and Patricia Wettig won 3 Emmys!). It is fun to note that, in the series, Patricia does not embody his wife, played by Mel Harris, which will disconcert part of the American public.

Generation Pub also offers Ken Olin a career reorientation, since the producers offer him to make a few episodes during the 4 seasons. If he does not give up the life of an actor (we find him in 1991 in Queens Logic - S.RASH), he produced in 1992 The Broken Cord and Doing Time on Marple Drive, which receives 3 nominations at the Emmy Awards!

Consequently, his 2 careers are largely dependent since, as soon as he wins a regular role in a series, he realizes at least one episode (EZ Streets in 1996 and L.A. Doctors in 1998). However, he plays, without realizing, in above all suspicion (1995), the love of my life (s.winant - 1997) or the lawyer of the demon (1997) and he realizes, without playing, the Honor of the cavalry (1995) and the episodes of Amy (1999), A la Maison Blanche (1999) or Felicity (1998).

It is on this last series that he meets J.J.Abrams. They sympathize and when the latter wants to create a new series of espionage, Ken Olin follows him in the adventure. In 2001, he became executive producer of the alias series. He produced 6 episodes of the first season and 6 of the second while playing the role of David McNeill! The following year, while keeping his producer cap on alias, he created the special Edition series, plays in the pilot and produced 2 episodes!

Ken Olin is an actor, director, television producer and American screenwriter born July 30, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois, United States. He is best known for his role in the television series Thirtysomehing, where he interpreted the character of Michael Steadman. He also played in series such as alias and Brothers & Sisters, as well as in films such as The First Wives Club and The Invisible Man. Olin was also an executive producer for series such as Felicity and alias, and he produced several episodes of these series. Apart from his acting career, Olin is also an authorized pilot and he participated in several car races. He is married to actress Patricia Wettig, with whom he had two children.
