Born on November 4, 1950 in Palo Alto in California, Post grew up in Walnut Creek and studied at the University of Santa Rosa before moving to Hollywood to continue her acting career.

Post started her career by playing in television series such as The Bob Newhart Show and The Love Boat before winning a recurring role in Night Court, in which she played Christine Sullivan for nine seasons. She also played in the Hearts Afire series with Billy Bob Thornton and John Ritter, and made appearances in television series like Quantum Leap and The Fall Guy.

In addition to his television career, Post has also played in films such as The Man with Two Brains with Steve Martin and Body Heat with William Hurt. She also appeared in television shows like Saturday Night Live and played in plays.

In his personal life, Post has been married to actor and producer Michael A. Ross since 1982. Together, they have three children. Apart from her acting career, Post is also known for her activism in favor of animal rights and for her work with charities for children.
