Michael Shanks was born on December 15, 1970 in Vancouver. In 1994, he graduated in dramatic arts at the University of British Columbia. For two years, he tried in different roles during the Stratford Shakespeare Festival including Lorenzo in The Mercant of Venice and Menteith in Macbeth. Michael Shanks then appeared in a few TV series before winning the role of Dr. Daniel Jackson in the TV Stargate SG1 series. This role will bring him notoriety allowing him to shoot some films in the cinema.

Michael Shanks is a Canadian actor known for playing the role of Dr. Daniel Jackson in the Stargate SG-1 television series. He was born on December 15, 1970 in Vancouver, British Columbia, and began his acting career in 1992.

Before becoming famous thanks to Stargate SG-1, Shanks played in several Canadian and American television series, notably Soul Food, Andromeda and 24 Hours Chrono. He also played in films, such as Cold Squad and Christmas at the camp.

In addition to his role in Stargate SG-1, Shanks also appeared in other productions related to the Stargate universe, such as Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe. He also played in television series such as Smallville, Burn Notice and Saving Hope.

Apart from his acting career, Shanks is also a talented artist and has exhibited his works in several art galleries. He is married to the actress Lexa Four and they have two children.

Bears an uncanny resemblance to his Stargate (1994) feature film counterpart James Spader, whose character, Dr. Daniel Jackson, he portrays on "Stargate SG-1" (1997).

Had an emergency appendectomy when his appendix ruptured the day before filming was to begin on Stargate SG-1 Season 3 episode "Nemesis". The script had to be rewritten to explain his character's reduced role. The writers decided to have the character recovering from an appendectomy as well.

Coincidentally enough, there is another Michael Shanks (no relation) who is a real life archaeologist, while Michael Shanks the actor portrays an archaeologist on the television show Stargate SG-1.

Grew up as a huge Star Wars and Star Trek fan. Michael was also a fan off the cult television series, Xena: Warrior Princess.
