Born in France, Robert Clary early suffered the pangs of war, being interned in a Nazi concentration camp as a child. After WWII he became a singing star in France, and in 1949 came to the United States to promote his career. He appeared on "The Ed Wynn Show" (1949); still learning English he performed in a French language comedy skit. His comedic skills were recognized by Broadway, where he appeared in several revues, including one which moved from theater to film, New Faces (1954). In the 1950's he was a game show regular, and then in 1965 he became Corporal Louis LeBeau in "Hogan's Heroes" (1965). Later film roles were based around WWII, such as Remembrance of Love (1982) (TV) about Holocaust survivors. More recently he returned to television series, joining "Days of Our Lives" (1965) and appearing in "The Young and the Restless" (1973).

Robert Clary, whose real name is Robert Max Widerman, born March 1, 1926 in Paris, is an American actor of French and Jewish origin.

Robert Clary was the youngest child of the 14 children in his family. At 12, he began a career as a professional singer. In 1942, he was deported to the Nazi concentration camp of Buchenwald with the other members of his family. Clary was the only survivor.

He made a career in France and the United States.

In 1965, Clary obtained the role which gave him an international celebrity. He played the role of corporal Louis Lebeau in the television series Papa Schultz (Hogan's Heroes).

Robert Clary is a French actor born March 1, 1926 in Paris. He is best known for his role as Lebeau in the television series Hogan's Heroes, broadcast in the 60s. He himself was interned in a Nazi concentration camp during the Second World War and was tortured for refusing to work for the Nazis. After the war, he worked with different organizations to support people with disabilities and give them access to a better quality of life.

He is also an accomplished author, having written several books on his life and his career, as well as on his experience as a survivor of the Holocaust.
