Biography for Rue McClanahan

Rue McClanahan was born in Healdton, Oklahoma, and is the daughter of Dreda Rheua-Lels (née Medaris), a esthetician and William Edwin McClana, a building entrepreneur. She grew up in Ardmore in Oklahoma. She completed her studies at the Ardmore high school in 1953. At the University of Tulsa, she specialized in German and theater.

She did not happen to Broadway until 1969 when she interpreted Sally Weber in the musical Jimmy Shine with Dustin Hoffman.

In the Maude soap opera, from 1972 to 1978, she played the role of Vivian Harmon, Maude's best friend (Beatrice Arthur).

In the crisp (The Golden Girls), she interpreted from 1985 to 1992 the role of Blanche Devereaux, the sulphurous southern eating men and owner of the house occupied by her and her co-tenants: Dorothy Zbornak (Beatrice Arthur), Rose Nylund (Betty White) and Sophia Petrillo (Estelle Getty). She received an Emmy Award in 1987 for her role. In 2008, she interpreted Peggy in the series "Sordid Lives". His latest role was Lorraine in the series "Meet The Browns" in 2009.

Rue McClana was an American actress known for her role as Blanche Devereaux in the Golden Girls television series. She was born on February 21, 1934 in Healdton in Oklahoma and died on June 3, 2010 in New York.

During her career, McClanahan has played in many theater, television and cinema productions. She won an Emmy Award for her role in Golden Girls in 1987 and was nominated several times for her performance in television productions.

Before becoming an actress, McClanahan studied dramatic art at the University of Oklahoma and made her professional debut on stage in the 1950s. She began to appear in television productions in the 1960s and played in Series like Maude and Mama's Family before obtaining its recurring role in Golden Girls in 1985.

In addition to her acting work, McClanan was also a writer and published several books, including a memory entitled My First Five Husbands ... and the ones Who Got Away. It was also very active in philanthropic causes and worked with charitable organizations to support the elderly and animals.

During her life, McClanahan was married six times and had a son, Mark Bishop. She died at the age of 76 in 2010 from a heart attack. Her performance in Golden Girls remains one of her most famous work and is still widely considered as an icon of American television.
