Born in Santa Monica, California, USA, Richard Hatch was studying classical piano at the age of eight, and knew he wanted to carve out a career as a performer before he reached his teens. After attending Harbor College in San Pedro, he joined a Los Angeles repertory company with which he traveled to New York City in 1967. He performed in the plays "Song of Walt Whitman," "Young Rebels," and a production called "Exercise," which Richard directed. Richard was cast as the original Philip Brent in the soap "All My Children" in 1970. He later played Inspector Dan Robbins on the televison series "The Streets of San Francisco." Richard Hatch is best remembered for his portrayal of Apollo on the series, "Battlestar Galactica."

Born in Santa Monica in California, Richard Hatch is better known for his role of Captain Appollo in the Galactica series, a role for which he was appointed to the Golden Globe Award. He began a theatrical career in Los Angeles Repertory Theater. He played the leading role in Broadway in several musicals and Agagna Le Obie Award for his work in Ps Your Cat is Dead in Chicago. He also appeared in American operas all my Children and Santa Barbara. He played the 1st role in the series The streets of San Francisco, for this role he won the Bravo Award in Germany, it is the equivalent of the Emmy Award and he played the first role in films such as Hatfields and The McCoys with Jack Palance, Addie and the Kings of Hearts with Jason Robards, Last of the Beautiful with Susan Sarandon and the culture Deadman's Curve where he depicts Jan Berry from the music group Jan and Dean.

He started his acting career by playing in plays in San Francisco before turning to cinema and television. His first appearance on the screen was in the 1967 film The Streets of San Francisco.

In 1978, Hatch obtained his most famous role in the Battlestar Galactica series, where he played the character of Captain Apollo, a spaceship pilot and one of the main characters in the series.
