Synopsis

Lost in the parallel dimensions, Quinn Mallory and his companions of unfortunate "slide" from one to the other hoping to return home one day ...

Sliders, the parallel worlds (Sliders in English) was an American science fiction television series which was broadcast from 1995 to 2000 on the Fox channel. The series featured a group of characters who were traveling between different parallel universes using a device called "cursor" which allowed them to "slip" from one universe to another.

The group was made up of Professor Malleable Rembrandt Brown, the engineering engineering Quinn Mallory, the rally pilot Wade Wells and the Maximilian history student Arturo. Each episode saw them find themselves in a different universe, often similar to our own world but with fascinating and sometimes dangerous differences.

The adventures of the characters allowed them to explore alternative universes where history had taken different paths, universes where technology had evolved in a different way, universes where strange creatures and extraterrestrial life forms existed, and still others. The series was both entertaining and instructive, offering a fascinating vision of what our own world could be if history had followed another path.

Unfortunately, the series was canceled after five seasons due to the lack of commercial success. However, she has acquired a solid fans base over the years and remains a must for science fiction for many people.

Trivia

The special effects in the fourth season take a very noticeable dive in quality, as the series had just been cancelled by Fox before being resurrected by the Sci-Fi Channel, which left the show with an overall lower production budget.

In the final season, Cleavant Derricks' character, Rembrandt Brown, is the only remaining original cast member.

Even though the production of the show went on continuously between season 3 and season 4, it had a year hiatus from airing when it was dropped by Fox and picked up by Sci-Fi, making the airing years (1995-1997, 1998-2000).

It was intended that the series would return for a sixth season, which is why we are left to wonder what happened to Rembrant in the final episode "The Seer".

The Mallory brothers are named Colin and Quinn; Kari Wuhrer co-starred with Colin Quinn on "Remote Control" (1987). It is unclear whether this is an in-joke or purely coincidental.

Jerry O'Connell (Quinn) wrote an episode treatment entitled "Narcotica," which took place on an Earth where drugs had been legalized. The story was rejected by the network for being "too dark," but later found life as a "Sliders" comic book.
