In the mid-1970s, students of the New York High School of Performing Arts were learned from dance, theater and singing, dreaming of glory. Daily work and competition exacerbate passions in this environment made up of young people withdrawn on themselves.

Benjamin Shorofsky, music teacher, is respected, it is the sage of the troop who calms the spirits.

Bruno Martelli, of Italian origin, whose life is entirely turned towards music, is a talented composer, but he is not ready to do anything to become famous.

Coco Hernandez is a dancer and singer, very beautiful and she knows it. Ambitious, she only thinks of entering the world of showbiz.

Holly Laird is a new student who joins the dramatic art section.

Doris Schwartz is a young apprentice actress Coquette but at the will to steel. She also wants to become a writer.

Barbara Sherwood the English teacher, finds it difficult to interest students who only think of their future career.

Christopher Donlan, a former school student, returns as a dance instructor.

Danny Amatullo, the Band's Bout-en-Train, is a gifted actor, capable of attacking a monologue without preparation or stage fright.

Lydia Grant, the dance teacher with a big heart, abandoned her dreams of glory to devote herself to the future career of her students that she does not spare. But she listens to them and helps them solve their daily problems.

Leroy Johnson is a great dancer, with a strong character.

Julie Miller, a shy cellist is however an accomplished musician.

Montgomery Macneill, kind but not very gifted, tries to match the performances of her mother, a famous actress.

The series is a lesson on surpassing oneself, work and tolerance. This series combined musical numbers with dramatic scenes. Cast members went on the road and performed live concerts (usually performing songs first done on the series) to satisfy the fan base of young people who regularly watched the show.
