Synopsis

During a flight test aboard a stratospheric plane prototype, Steve Austin, a NASA astronaut, crashed to landing. Broken from everywhere, just alive, he falls out (already!) For a government project to develop "cyborgs" agents at 6 million dollars. Rudy Wells is convinced by Oliver Spencer, the project manager, to make Steve Austin the guinea pig for experience. Thanks to the new techniques of bio-ionic, it is replaced its destroyed members and organs: the right arm, both legs and the left eye.

He became an agent of the OSI (Office of Scientific Intelligence), under the responsibility of Oscar Goldman, and carried out the most perilous missions on his behalf. In some of them he meets extraterrestrials, robots, and even his double.

After around thirty episodes, he finds his love of youth, Jaimie Sommers, who became a tennis champion. But it has a parachute accident, and in order to save it, at the request of Steve, Rudy Wells' team also makes it a cyborg. Only, the accident made him lose his memory ...

The same son -in -law of history will arrive at Steve's son, in a special episode produced in the 80s, entitled "Bionic Mission".

The man who was worth three billion (The Six Million Dollar Man) is an American television series which was broadcast between 1973 and 1978. The series follows the adventures of Steve Austin, an astronaut seriously injured in a plane crash. To save him, scientists decide to implement bionic prostheses that give him superhuman powers. With his new capacities, Steve works for the OSI (Office of Scientific Intelligence), a secret organization that fights against crime and corruption.

In the first season, Steve faced different enemies, such as spies, terrorists and criminals. He uses his new powers to fight them and protect the interests of OSI. He often works in collaboration with his mentor, Oscar Goldman, the director of the OSI, and with Jaime Sommers, a childhood friend who is also with bionic prostheses.

Over the seasons, Steve faces increasingly powerful enemies, such as agents of a secret Russian organization, extraterrestrials and even giant robots. He must also face personal problems, such as his relationship with Jaime and the fact that he has trouble adapting to his life with prostheses.

Despite the difficulties, Steve continues to serve OSI with loyalty and bravery, often endangering his life to protect freedom and justice. The series highlights the themes of friendship, loyalty and the quest for justice, as well as the challenges linked to technology and science.

Trivia

Lee Majors met on the Farah Fawcett set which he married by The continuation, Stefanie Powers, Lindsay Wagner and the future director John Landis, actor at that time.

The author of the novel, Martin Caidin, was very famous in the field Science fiction. It is said that NASA worked with him. He followed the series closely who used 25 screenwriters.

The title was modified, "translated" in a way: the dollar was evaluated at 5 francs in 1974 which earned us the title "The man who was worth three billion".

The creators of the series We develop their concept during the first episodes: Rudy Wells changes interpreter between the pilot and the series. Same thing for the sponsor of Steve Austin's "repair", Spencer, who is initially a troubled and unprime character. It is replaced in the series by Oscar Goldman, which will hold an increasingly paternal place.

On the technical side, the systematic idle when Steve Court will only become widespread as and when. As well as sound effects accompanying bionic actions.

Steve's capacity also evolve, like the zoom function of his eye (at the start, he only has an infrared vision). Ditto for its trampoline jumps. The credits also change. And to the "James Bond" type song composed by Glen Larson and interpreted by Dusty Springfield, succeeds Oliver Nelson's music that we know.

Inspired by a novel by Martin Caidin, "Cyborg" (contraction of Cybernetic Organm), the series first existed in the form of three TV movies, not really unforgettable where Steve Austin plagued James Bond, surrounded by weapons and pretty Girls. The creators of these TV movies were Richard Irving, senior universal and Glen Larson manager who will remain in the memories for series like "Galactica", "Buck Rogers" ..... The actor already had the features of Lee Majors, Former footballer.

Under the leadership of Harve Bennett (already in the SF with the Star Trek), the series finally finds its shape which will last 5 seasons before being canceled.

With the creation of the spin-off "Super Jaimie", production has multiplied the cross-over between the two series, to the delight of viewers.

This series, like that of "Super Jaimie" can frankly enter the field of science fiction or fantastic first because 30 years later, science is still not able to replace so many organs on a human being.

In addition, in some episodes, there is a big food, extra-terrestrial creature or even telepaths, space visitors and other aliens.

A good part of the success of these series is due to the technical trick of the idle to express the speed of movement and the small music which accompanied it and which remained in our ear.

Only the first two TV movies were broadcast in France and 2 episodes of season 4 and 1 of the Saion 5 were not doubled, so not broadcast ...

For the anecdote, the images of the plane crash in the credits are true images and the translation offered us a "bio-ionic" which has never had any existence in the dictionary.
