Synopsis

This story took place very long ago, at the time of myths and legends. The gods were petty and cruel, they took pleasure in making men suffer.

Only one man dared to face them: Hercules. Hercules had a force that the world did not know, a force that only the power of its heart could surpass. But he was continued by the resentment of his mother-in-law HĂ©ra, the all-powerful queen of the gods. The oppressed, the unfortunate were no longer alone, they finally had a hope: Hercules.

Hercules: The Legendary Journeys was an American television series of Greek fantasy and mythology which was broadcast for the first time in 1995. The series featured Kevin Sorbo in the role of Hercules, a Greek half-god fighting to save the humans of divine threats. The series lasted six seasons and was very popular in the United States and other parts of the world.

The series follows the adventures of Hercules as it travels the ancient world with his friends Iolaus and Demetrius. Although heralding is a half-god, he is often considered a simple mortal by the other gods and goddesses of Greek mythology, which allows him to mingle with humans and protect them from dangers. The series explores the famous Greek myths, like the Trojan War and the work of Hercules, while adding elements of fantasy and adventure.

The series was very popular for its unique mixture of action, humor and Greek mythology. Many famous actors have played in the series, including Lucy Lawless, Michael Hurst and Kevin Smith. The series was also followed by a derivative series, Xena: Warrior Princess, which was broadcast for five seasons from 1995. Together, Hercules and Xena created one of the most popular fantasy universes in the history of television.

Trivia

Originally, Hercules' adventures were to be limited to five TV movies. But faced with the considerable success encountered during their broadcasting, producer Sam Raimi had the idea of declining the adventures of the hero in series.

Although the series takes great liberties with Greek mythology, the scenarios full of humor, the quality of the fights and special effects as well as the beauty of the landscapes of New Zealand, where it was turned, give a spectacle good quality.

Hercules gave birth to two derivative series: Xena, the warrior and Hercules Junior (Young Hercules).

An adaptation in video games, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, was released on Nintendo 64 in 2000.
