Synopsis

A series, two generations. On the one hand, parents born in the comfortable 1960s and on the other, children of the 80s, the end of a very conservative period (the "Reagan" era).

The story takes place in the city of Colombus (in Ohio) in a middle class family: parents are called Elyse and Steven Keaton, they are very liberal and have great ideals although they are solidly anchored in the Professional life (she is an architect, he is director of a TV channel). But their children are very different. At 17, Alex is a "conservative", usually dressed in a costume and a tie. Lisa, 15, is rather the style "jeans basketball" and she likes to run boys. As for little Jennifer, 9, it is a child who is not frankly in a hurry to grow. All together, the characters form an affectionate family, although children do not understand why their parents love Bob Dylan's discs ...

Among the other characters, there is Skippy, Alex's best friend.

During the 1984-1985 season, Elyse gave birth to baby Andrew, and in the fall, Alex the "Super student", entered the University of Leland, thus marrying the virtues of economic sciences dear to the Reagan administration. There, he engages seriously with another student, Ellen Reed, while her sister Mallory Fleurte with a sculptor aspirant called Nick Moore. Then, Mallory joined the Junior University of Grant, with a view to making more or less career in Mode. In 1987, another love entered Alex's life in the person of Lauren Miller (interpreted by Courtney Cox, Future Monica from "Friends"), a psychology student.

Sacred generation (original title: Family Ties) was an American television series broadcast between 1982 and 1989 on the NBC network. The series featured Michael J. Fox in the role of adolescent Alex P. Keaton, a young curator who often faces the liberal ideals of his parents Elyse and Steven Keaton (played by Meredith Baxter-Birney and Michael Gross). The series followed the daily adventures of the Keaton family, in particular the often conflicting relations between Alex and his parents as well as the loves of his two brothers and sisters, Mallory and Jennifer (played by Justine Bateman and Tina Yothers).

Sacrée Génération was a great success on television and has won several prizes, including three Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe for Michael J. Fox in the category of best actor in a comic television series. The series has also been praised for its intelligent and funny treatment of everyday life problems, as well as for its complex and endearing characters.

In addition to Michael J. Fox, the series also promoted several young actors who later became famous, such as Courteney Cox and Nancy McKeon. Sacred Generation has also been adapted in several spin-offs, notably an animated sitcom entitled The Ellen Show.

In summary, Sacrée Génération was an American popular television series from the 1980s which followed the adventures of a conservative family confronted with the liberal ideals of his parents. The series has won several awards thanks to its smart humor and its endearing characters, and launched the career of several young actors.

Trivia

The series was broadcast in the United States on the largest private channel, NBC, from September 1982 to September 1989. It will make it possible to make known a future great actor, Michael J. Fox. But the actor, aspiring to make cinema, and the producers not imagining the series without him, the series will end prematurely. Despite its immense success, no continuation in the form of TV movies (very fashionable at the moment in the United States) has been made, the producer/ creator Gary David Goldberg having opposed it.

Despite its continual parody of the values of the Reagan era, "Family Ties" addressed some sensitive subjects in unusual episodes. The episode which is perhaps the most famous is "my name is Alex," in which Alex, who is on stage, shows his professionalism although he is internally plagued by his pain and disoriented by the sudden death of a Young friend in a car accident. During the 1988-1989 season, the Keatons faced racism when a black family enters their vicinity, and face an internal crisis while Steven is the victim of a heart attack and must undergo a surgical operation. In the last episode, the family inevitably separates, because Alex, who graduated, leaves the house to go to work in a large brokerage business of Wall Street.

The series caused several closnes, the most famous being "what's new doctor". President Reagan had declared at the time that "Family Ties" was her favorite series!

In France, the first episodes are broadcast on the 5, then TF1 will take over by changing the title. However, while the sitcom was the most famous of the early 1980s in the United States (even more than "Arnold and Willy"), it went completely unnoticed here ... Note: in V.F. Steven became Stéphane and Mallory has become ... Lisa!

In French version, the series is also called "Sacrée Famille"
