Synopsis

Pilot of the US Navy, Lieutenant Harmon Rabb is attached to the JAG (Judge Advocate General) following a plane crash. Now a lawyer, he is responsible for managing internal judicial conflicts at the Navy.

Jag (Acronym for Judge Advocate General) was an American television series which was broadcast on the CBS network from 1995 to 2005. The series staged the world of American military justice and followed the adventures of the Jag Valer Harmon Rabb Jr. and the Jag captain, Sarah Mackenzie. Both were military lawyers who worked for the United States Navy Generals Agence General.

The series was created by Donald P. Bellisario, who was also known for other popular television series like Magnum, P.I. and NCIS. Jag was acclaimed by criticism for his realism and loyalty to the world of military justice. The series was also praised for its solid casting, which included actors such as David James Elliott, Catherine Bell and Patrick Labyortaaux.

In addition to following the judicial investigations of Harmon and Mackenzie, the series also explored other aspects of military life, including romantic relationships, interpersonal conflicts and dangerous missions. The series was a commercial success and has been broadcast in many countries around the world. She also inspired the creation of another popular television series, NCIS, which started in 2003.

Trivia

Unused footage from movies like Top Gun (1986) and The Hunt for Red October (1990) was used in this TV series.

One episode was shot on the set of Crimson Tide (1995).

Was picked up by CBS after being dropped by NBC for low ratings. Became a success soon after.

During the last half of season 8, Catherine Bell was shown mostly behind a desk or holding something in front of her because she was pregnant. Her character pretended to be pregnant during the last couple of episodes of the 8th season, then threw away the padding during the Season 9 premiere - because Bell had given birth during the summer hiatus.

"JAG" stands for "Judge Advocate General". The office of JAG is a part of the Navy, which according to their official website "provides legal and policy advice to the Secretary of the Navy in all legal matters concerning military justice, administrative law, environmental law, ethics, claims, admiralty, operational and international law, litigation and legal assistance."
