Synopsis

Former FBI agent, Frank Black gets away when he realizes that he can read in the thoughts of criminals! Approached by the mysterious Millennium group, he decides to use his gift to resolve often sordid crimes.

Millennium is a former American television series which was broadcast between 1996 and 1999. The series was created by Chris Carter, the creator of the famous X-Files series. Millennium followed the adventures of the FBI agent Frank Black, a profiling expert who has the capacity to enter the minds of the criminals and to visualize the crimes they have committed.

During the series, Frank Black worked for an organization called Millennium Group, which is devoted to the fight against crime and justice. Frank is assisted in his surveys by other members of the group, notably Lara Means, a medium, and Peter Watts, a former FBI agent.

The series was greeted by criticism for its unique and dark approach to criminal investigations, as well as for his exceptional performances by the actor launches Henriksen, who performs Frank Black. The series was also appreciated for its use of mythology and religion in its stories.

Despite his praise, Millennium did not have great commercial success and lasted only three seasons before being canceled. However, the series has acquired a base of faithful fans over the years and remains considered one of the best series of its kind.

Trivia

In the first season, Millennium (with two capital "m", representing the 2000 number in Roman writing, a symbolic year of the Apocalypse) recounts the investigations of Franck Black, former criminologist of the FBI now retired. Black is decked out in a strange characteristic which he calls his "curse" (see episode: the curse of Franck Black). In the presence of a crime place, he has blurred and stroboscopic visions that informs him about the personality of the killer, his anxieties, his desires.

Installed in Seattle with his wife Catherine and his daughter Jordan in a peaceful yellow house, Franck Black nevertheless continues his investigations as a consultant with the Millennium group, specializing in the affairs of the most enigmatic serial killers.

After a first season when Franck Black is confronted with assassins with the most sophisticated methods, the series takes a more fantastic turn by revealing to us that an invisible fight between Angels and Demons hides behind the emergence of evil at the end of Millennium, prelude to the apocalypse.

Franck Black is assisted in this by Peter Watts, member of the group and not a candidate, like Franck Black, also responsible for supervising it and judging his ability to integrate the group.

We learn over the episodes that the discreet character of Peter Watts held for ten years the post of deputy director of the FBI, before resigning following a deep depression caused by the discovery of a mutilated baby. His knowledge seems to be vast, from criminology to medicine to foreign languages (he speaks German fluent), but his ability to draw profiles of killers is much less acute than that of Franck Black.

Thus, the real goal of the Millennium group, in reality an esoteric society, would be to carefully choose its members by confronting them with evil, in order to choose elected officials intended to survive the apocalypse planned for the year 2000. There are two currents Within the group, the owls and the roosters, the first defending the thesis of the cataclysm of the year 2000.

The second season thus begins a radical turn where prophecies and biblical events are revisited (the ark of Noah), abandoning the principle of the hunt for serial killers of the first season, in reality simple surface of the iceberg of a plan Manichean much more universal.

Basically, Millennium is inspired by a real group of FBI retirees, soberly entitled the "group of the Academy". His activities are of course nothing esoteric. The group rents its services to private companies.

Like an esoteric initiation, the series is thus riddled with mystical symbols only understandable by the initiates, such as Ouroboros, this snake biting its tail representing the cycle of the universe, adopted by the group to represent it.

If some films already treat the hunt for serial killers (the silence of the lambs ...), rare are, before the broadcast of Millennium, the series featuring profilers. Fox Mulder, the main character of the X-Files, exercises this activity in certain episodes in particular via the Assassin Luther Lee Boggs in the episode the message. The character of the profileur wearing visions will be recovered almost line for line, but in a less black, oppressive version and, ultimately, more watered down by the Profiler series.

After the broadcast of the last episode of the series, on May 21, 1999, viewers were still able to find the character of Franck Black in the other series created by Chris Carter, X-Files, at the borders of reality. In the fourth episode of the seventh season, entitled Millenium and broadcast on November 28, 1999 on the Fox, the Fox Mulder and Dana Scully agents are indeed led to team up with him, to investigate the Millennium group and to prevent their apocalyptic designs On the passage of the new millennium.
