Synopsis

Roseanne (Roseanne Barr) and Dan Conner (John Goodman) are a workers' couple who live in the suburbs of Lanford in Illinois. Both obese, they try to manage their professional life as well as possible (they both work at the factory in the channel but hope to have their own business one day) and their private life by educating their three children: Becky (Alicia Garanson Then Sarah Chalke), an impulsive teenager and obsessed with boys, Darlene (Sara Gilbert), a smart and very sarcastic girl and David Jacob "D.J." (Michael Fishman), the youngest, rather naive and scapegoat. Most episodes deal with the education of children, but we also see appearing from time to time other speakers such as Jackie (Laurie Metcalf), Roseanne's sister, always in search of great love.

Roseanne is an American television series created by Matt Williams and broadcast from October 18, 1988 to May 20, 1997 on ABC. The series follows the adventures of the Conner family, which lives in a fictitious city in Illinois. The family is made up of Roseanne and Dan Conner, as well as their children Becky, Darlene and D.J. Roseanne is a strong and sarcastic woman who does everything to maintain her united family, while Dan is a worker who works hard to meet his needs family.

Over the seasons, the series addresses various subjects such as family relationships, financial problems, politics and social concerns. It highlights the daily struggles of American middle -class families to reach both ends, as well as the differences and conflicts that can occur within a family.

The series was very successful, winning numerous prizes and becoming one of the most popular series in the history of American television. In 2018, a new version of the series was broadcast, simply entitled Roseanne, in which the main characters are now about twenty more years and face new challenges.

Trivia

Roseanne Barr, main interpreter and producer of the series, brings a lot to the sitcom since she lived for many years this role of proletarian mother.

Thanks to its certain accents of truth, the sitcom quickly convinced the public and was for almost ten years one of the most popular American sitcoms. It must be said that in addition to being relevant and approaching many sensitive subjects (such as homosexuality), the series is simply hilarious and very engaging.

Only the last season is more open to criticism, since, in this one, the connets become billionaires and therefore face this sudden richness.

Following a low audience in France, M6 (who had the right to the series at the time) did not deem it necessary to buy the rights of the last three seasons (seasons 7 to 9) depriving French fans of the last mishaps of the Conner family.
