Biography for Danny DeVito

Actor, director and producer of the most discreet but also of the most influential of Hollywood, Danny Devito took his first steps in front of the camera in 1969 in the drama Dream of Glass, before leaving to study cinema at the New York's Academy of Dramatic Arts. It was there that he meets the director Martin Brest, then also a student, who directed him in 1972 alongside Rhea Perlman (his future wife) in the student film Hot Dog for Gaugin. It was in 1975 that the actor revealed himself in the eyes of the world in flight over a cuckoo nest, where he played one of the residents of the psychiatric establishment, companion of Jack Nicholson. A year later, he tried to make the realization, for the TV movie Selling of Vince of Angelo, then for the Taxi television series, in which he interpreted a acerbic taxi driver.

In the 80s, Danny Devito knew the consecration by collaborating three times with the tandem Michael Douglas / Kathleen Turner on adventure films in the pursuit of the Green Diamond (1984), the Nile Diamond (1985) and the Comedy on Marriage The Rose War (1989). Now star in its own right, the small comic actor staged in 1987 alongside Billy Crystal in his first feature film entitled Balance Maman off the train. The general public remembers him for having embodied the twin brother of Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Comedy of Action Jumeaux (1988) or even the terrifying penguin in Batman, Le Défi (1992). Danny Devito also likes to collaborate with the same partners: Jack Nicholson he heads in Hoffa (1992) and to whom he replies in Mars Attacks! (1996); Arnold Schwarzenegger, pregnant in Junior Comedy (1994); Or Gene Hackman with whom he shoots the thrillers Get Shorty (1995) and robberies (2002).

From the 90s, Danny Devito chose to vary genres, appearing as a journalist from a scandal press in the police film L.A. Confidential (1997), as a collaborator lawyer of Matt Damon in the film of trial the idealist ( 1998), as a doctor in the drama The Virgin Suicides (1999), in Impressario by Jim Carrey in the biographical film Man on the Moon (2000) or even in Cirque Director in the Older Big Fish (2004). He does not forget his kind of predilection, comedy, by directing the tandem ben stiller / drew barrymore in 1 duplex for 3 (2003), the story of a couple wishing to acquire a house to the point of wanting to rid of his current tenant.

Danny Devito is an American actor, director and producer born on November 17, 1944 in Asbury Park in New Jersey. He is best known for his role in the "Taxi" sitcom in the 1970s and 80s, as well as for playing in films such as "Reno 911!", "L'Arme Fatale", "Junior" and " Adams ".

Devito began his career as a theaterman before embarking on cinema and television. In 1976, he obtained a role in the series "Taxi", in which he played Louie de Palma, a little grumpy and manipulative man who heads a taxi company. This role earned him four nominations at the Emmy Awards and he won the Golden Globe for best actor in a musical or comic television series in 1981.

Devito has also played in many films, notably "One Flow Over the Cuckoo's Nest" (1975), "Ruthless people" (1986), "Twins" (1988), "Batman Returns" (1992), "Get Shorty" ( 1995) and "L.A. Confidential" (1997). In addition to his acting work, Devito also made several films, notably "The War of the Roses" (1989), "Hoffa" (1992) and "Death to Smoochy" (2002).

Devito is also a talented producer and has produced several films and television series, notably "Pulp Fiction" (1994), "Eraser" (1996) and "Garden State" (2004). In addition to its professional achievements, Devito is also engaged in social and environmental causes, in particular as a member of the board of directors of the Environmental Media Association.
