Biography for Ivan Dixon

Ivan Dixon (April 6, 1931 in New York -) is an American actor and director, known for the role of Sergeant James Kinchloe in the television series Stalag 13 (Hogan's Heroes). Ivan played the role of Kinchloe from 1965 to 1970, making him the only actor of the original team not to participate in the whole series (Stalag 13 ended in 1971).

Ivan Dixon then spent many years (1970-1993) behind the camera for television shows.

Ivan Dixon was an American player and director born January 6, 1931 in New York, New York, in the United States. He was active in the entertainment industry for more than forty years, and was recognized for his roles in films, television series and plays.

Dixon began his career as an actor in the 1950s, playing in plays and making appearances in television shows. He then made his cinema debut in 1957, in the film "The Invisible Man's Revenge". During his cinematographic career, Dixon played in films such as "A Raisin in the Sun" (1961), "The Spook Who Sat by the Door" (1973) and "Car Wash" (1976).

Dixon was also active in the world of television, playing in series such as "The Rifleman" (1959-1963), "Hogan's Heroes" (1965-1971) and "The President's Plane Is Missing" (1973). In 1978, he was also one of the first African-American actors to lead an episode of the "Roots" series.

In addition to his acting career, Dixon was also producer and director. In 1976, he produced and directed the film "The Spook Who Sat by the Door", which was greeted by criticism for his progressive treatment of themes of race and politics in the United States. As a director, Dixon also worked on episodes of television series such as "The White Shadow" (1978-1981) and "Miami Vice" (1984-1989).

Unfortunately, Dixon died on March 16, 2008, at the age of 77, following a long illness. Although he is no longer among us, he remains one of the most talented and influential actors of his generation, and his work will continue to live through his many achievements in the entertainment industry.
