Biography for Jack Colvin

Jack Colvin has won awards as an actor, writer, director, co-producer and scenic designer. He became a private student of Michael Chekhov at the age of 17 and remained with him for the last five years of his life. He has been teaching, lecturing and directing using the Michael Chekhov technique for many years at the University of Southern California, the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, the Central School of Cinematography of Rome and Theatre East (20 years) in Studio City, California. He is currently the Artistic Director of the Michael Chekhov Studio U.S.A. West in Hollywood for whom he has directed and acted in Hamlet (as the ghost), Hedda Gabler, Dead End at Sunset (his adaptation of The Lower Depths) and Don Juan in Hell (as the devil).

As an actor and director, Colvin was under contract for seven years to Universal Studios and has worked for such directors as John Houston, Sidney Pollack and Alfred Hitchcock; and with such stars as John Wayne, Paul Newman, Kathryn Hepburn, Peter Ustinov, Robert Redford, Paul Scofield and Charles Bronson.
