Biography for Dan Blocker

It is a giant of almost two meters with a Herculean force for 1.93m for 136kg.

He played in '' Bonanza "from 1959 to 1972: 375 episodes in the role of Eric" Hoss "Cartwright (until his death, of a pulmonary embolism).

Dan Blocker was an American actor known for his role as Hoss Cartwright in the television series "Bonanza". Blocker was born on December 10, 1928 in Dekalb, Texas. He grew up on a cotton farm near O'Donnell, also in Texas. He studied at the University of Texas-Austin before serving in the American army during the Korean War.

After his demobilization, Blocker began his acting career by playing in local theatrical productions. He then obtained roles in television series such as "the investigations of the detective Stone" and "Perry Mason". However, it was his role as Hoss Cartwright in "Bonanza" that made him famous. The series, which was broadcast for 14 seasons from 1959 to 1973, tells the story of the Cartwright family, owner of a large wood farm in Nevada. Blocker played the role of the family's second son, a kind and generous character.

Blocker also appeared in several films, notably "The Plaine Man" with Jimmy Stewart and "The Conveyor" with Kirk Douglas. Unfortunately, his career was brutally interrupted in 1972 when he suddenly died of a pulmonary embolism at the age of 43. His death was a shock for his fans and colleagues, and he was buried in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park cemetery in Glendale, California.

Despite his short career, Dan Blocker has left an indelible footprint in the world of entertainment thanks to his role in "Bonanza" and his remarkable performances in other productions. He is still widely admired and appreciated by fans of the series, who remember him as one of the most talented and endearing actors of his generation.

Blocker was approached to play Major "King" Kong in Stanley Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) after Peter Sellers was injured. However, according to Terry Southern (co-writer), Blocker's agent rejected the script as being "too pinko".

Became close friends with Robert Altman when Altman was directing episodes of the TV show "Bonanza" (1959). Altman's "Bonanza" (1959) episodes often often featured the Hoss character and frequently were humorous. Altman wanted Blocker to play the Roger Wade character in his version of Raymond Chandler's The Long Goodbye (1973), but he died before the commencement of shooting.
