Born in 1935 in New Jersey, Gail Fisher was the first African-American actress to receive the best female support for her interpretation of Peggy in the Mannix series.

She died of lung cancer in December 2000.

Gail Fisher was an American actress known for her role in the television series "Mission: Impossible" in the 1960s. She won a Primetime Emmy Award in 1970 for her work in this series. Fisher was born on August 18, 1935 in Orange, New Jersey, and grew up in East Orange. She studied at the Barnard College of the University of Columbia, where she graduated in dramatic arts in 1957.

After graduating, Fisher began her career by playing in theater productions, especially in the play "The Dark at the Top of the Stairs" in Broadway in 1960. She also played in television productions, like "The Defenders "and" The Nurses ". In 1967, she joined the cast of "Mission: Impossible" as Peggy Maxwell, a recurring character in the series. She stayed in the series until 1969, and won a Primetime Emmy Award for her work in the series in 1970.

Fisher continued to play in television and cinematographic productions throughout the 1970s and 1980s, notably in series like "Kojak" and "The Bionic Woman". She also appeared in films such as "The Learning Tree" and "The Losers". Unfortunately, Fisher died on December 2, 2000 at the age of 65. On December 2, 2000, Gail Fisher passed away at home from lung cancer. 12 hours later, her brother Clifton, a businessman, died of heart failure.

In 1970 she became the very first African American Actress to win an Emmy award for acting, when she received the Emmy for Oustanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Peggy Fair in "Mannix".
