Biography for Richard Dysart

Richard Dysart served for four years in the Air Force during the Korean War. He's a founding member of the American Conservatory Theatre, San Francisco. He received the Drama Desk Award in 1972 and a Emmy Award in 1992. He is good friends with Diana Muldaur, who played Rosalind Shays on L.A. Law.

Richard Dysart was an American actor born March 30, 1929 in Boston, Massachusetts, and died on April 5, 2015 in Santa Monica, California. He was trained in the profession of actor in Carnegie Mellon University, where he obtained a license in dramatic arts in 1952.

Dysart began his acting career in the theater, where he played in many productions in the 1950s and 1960s, notably in William Shakespeare, Harold Pinter and Samuel Beckett plays. He also worked in cinema and television, where he has performed many roles in films and television series.

Dysart is best known for his role as Leland McKenzie in the television series L.A. Law, broadcast from 1986 to 1994. He played in all the episodes of the series, which earned him four nominations at the Emmy Awards. He also won a Golden Globe in 1988 for his interpretation of McKenzie.

In addition to his acting career, Dysart was also a dramatic art teacher. He taught at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he was director of the drama department for several years.

Dysart was married to actress Kathleen Widdoes, with whom he had two children. He died in 2015 at the age of 86 of heart failure. His death was announced by his family, who said he had spent his last days surrounded by his relatives.
