Richard Dean Anderson (born January 23, 1950 in Minneapolis, Minnesota) is an American actor who started his acting career in soap opera (appearing on General Hospital as Dr. Jeff Webber from 1976 to 1981), but came to fame with the hit television series MacGyver.

He currently stars in the series Stargate SG-1 as General (formerly Colonel) Jack O'Neill, based on the movie Stargate starring Kurt Russell. Although he has never married he has a daughter (Wylie Quinn Annarose) by his one-time partner Apryl Prose.

In Season 8, he opted to have a reduced role in the Stargate SG-1 series due to his reduced availability. As of December, 2004, it is unknown how limited his role will be for the show's 9th (and possibly final) season.

Anderson appears in the 1997 PC game Fallout as the voice of Killian Darkwater.

When he was 16, Richard Dean Anderson broke both of his arms in separate accidents on the ice. He broke his left arm first, and while skating 3 weeks later he broke his right arm so badly he was in the hospital for 3 months. His elbow snapped backwards and he's still got pins in there.

When he was 17, he rode his bike 5,641 miles from Minnesota to Alaska. He started out with some friends but travelled the last 33 days alone.
