Synopsis

When Kate, Paul Hennessy's wife, starts working again full, he is forced to take care of their three children (Bridget, Kerry and Rory) who give her a hard time: Bridget, the elder, is more interested in boys than his studies; Kerry, the youngest, sensitive, hardworking and activist begins to challenge her authority, and Rory, the youngest, spies his sisters all day.

After Paul's death in 2003, Jim, Kate's father, and C.J., his irresponsible nephew (by alliance with Kate), settle in the Hennessy to console her.

8 Simple Rules (or not touch my daughters in French) is an American television series which was broadcast from 2002 to 2005 on ABC. The series was based on the eponymous book of W. Bruce Cameron and followed the adventures of the Hennessy family, composed of Father Paul (interpreted by John Ritter), Mother Cate (Katey Sagal), their three children Bridget (Kaley Cuoco ), Kerry (Amy Davidson) and Rory (Martin Spanjers), as well as their grandfather Jim (James Garner).

At the start of the series, Paul is a single father who raises his three children alone since his wife resumed his studies. But things change when Cate decides to leave university to become a professor of literature in the high school of their city. Paul and Cate must then navigate the sometimes troubled waters of paternity and maternity while trying to maintain order in their noisy and exuberant family.

8 Simple Rules was a critical and commercial success, notably thanks to the remarkable performance of John Ritter in the role of Paul. Unfortunately, Ritter died suddenly in 2003, at the age of 54, when the series was in the midst of his second season. His death deeply affected fans of the series and led to a change of direction for the third and last season, which saw the arrival of David Spade in the role of the uncle of Bridget and Kerry.

Although 8 simple rules has now been finished for several years, it remains a popular series and has been continuously broadcast in syndication on many television channels around the world.
