Synopsis

Lieutenant Théo Kojak of the New York City Police Department is the main character of this popular police series from the 70s. He is a severe and terribly effective policeman, but also very charming with the ladies. One of its strange characteristics was its weakness for treats.

Kojak is an American television series as a police officer broadcast between 1973 and 1978. The series features Tellly Savalas in the title role of Theo Kojak, a New York police inspector who fights crime in the city. Kojak is famous for his unique character and his many mania, in particular his passion for lollipops as a substitute for tobacco, his shaved skull and his emblematic line of dialogue "Who Loves Ya, Baby? ».

The series was a commercial success and has won numerous awards, including a Golden Globe for Telly Savalas as best actor in a dramatic television series in 1975. Kojak was also broadcast in many countries around the world, and Inspired a film, a spin-off television series and several TV movies.

Kojak follows the adventures of Inspector Kojak while investigating crimes in the streets of New York. With his police team, he works tirelessly to resolve the most difficult business in the city, while facing the personal and professional challenges that arise.

Despite his hard and ruthless character as a police officer, Kojak is a complex and deeply human character. He has a tender heart and is loyal to his friends and family, but he is also able to make difficult decisions to protect those he loves. In the end, Kojak is a hero who fights to enforce the law in an often chaotic and dangerous city.

Trivia

Kojak's trademark lollypop was introduced as a cigarette substitute after Telly Savalas gave up smoking.

The series was translated to Hungarian in the 1970s. The Actor, who gave his voice to Kojak, László Inke resembled Telly Savalas so much that a Hungarian movie was shot in which he actually played Kojak (the title is: Kojak Budapesten, and it was shot in 1980). While the original series is colored, the Hungarian film is black and white. Also, according to the plot of Kojak Budapesten, Kojak was born in Hungary, and had been a very clumsy cop before emigrating.
