The series was created by Katherine Fugate and broadcast on the Lifetime television network. She featured a wide range of actors such as Kim Delaney, Catherine Bell, Sally Pressman, Brigid Brannam, Brian McNamara, Sterling K. Brown and Wendy Davis. American Wives was hailed by criticism for his realistic and emotional treatment of the life of soldiers' wives, highlighting the challenges and sacrifices they make to support their husbands and family. The series won an Emmy Award in 2007 for his original theme song, entitled "Army Wives". The series was a commercial success for Lifetime, becoming one of the most watched series in the chain.
