Synopsis

This series recounts the misadventures of three priests and their governess, exiled on Craggy Island, a small island off the Irish coast.

Their behavior, unworthy of the Catholic Church, led their superiors to inflicting this banishment: Father Ted Crilly has diverted donations collected by the Church; Father Jack Hackett is an alcoholic obsessed with women and Father Dougal McGuire is a simple spirit.

Father Ted is a British-Irish comic television series created by Graham Linehan and Arthur Mathews. The series follows the adventures of three Catholic priests living on a fictitious island called Craggy Island, Ireland. The main character is Father Ted Crilly, an irresponsible and casual priest who is forced to cohabit with two of his colleagues: Father Dougal McGuire, a young naive and stupid priest, and Father Jack Hackett, an old alcoholic and coarse priest.

The series was broadcast for the first time in Ireland in 1995, before going to the British channel Channel 4. It was a great success with the public and was hailed by criticism for its absurd humor and its satire of religion and the life of the Irish island. The series ended after three seasons and 25 episodes in 1998.

The casting of the series included Dermot Morgan in the role of Father Ted Crilly, Ardal O'Hanlon as Father Dougal McGuire and Frank Kelly in the role of Father Jack Hackett. The three actors were widely praised for their interpretation of their respective characters.

The series was mainly shot in the county of Clare, Ireland, and was produced by Hat Trick Productions. It has been broadcast in several countries, including the United States, where it was broadcast on the PBS channel. Since its broadcast, Father Ted has gained great popularity as a classic of television comedy and is often considered one of the best comic series ever produced in Ireland and the United Kingdom.
