Synopsis

In 1865, faced with the threats of civil war, the Macahan family decided to leave Virginia and try their luck in Oregon.

It all started while Kate Macahan was waiting on the farm with her children Laura, Jessie and Josh, the return of her husband and Luke her eldest son, both who went to war. Alas, Luke will come back alone announcing his family the tragic death of his father.

A misfortune never arrives alone and an army officer arrested Luke for the murder of three soldiers. Although being in a state of self-defense, Luke's head is put at prices but fortunately, the uncle Zeb, a kind of border guard a little rustling, "arranged". And Luke must abandon them to hide in a Simonite community.

While the civil war is raging, Zeb decides to take his family, including Luke, towards clearer skies, Oregon, where he could build a ranch and draw up appaloosa horses ... but in these wild countries, the Voyage quickly becomes a merciless perpetual fight against elements, Indians and looters ...

The conquest of the West (How the West Was Won) is an American television series which was broadcast between 1962 and 1963. The series follows the adventures of the Macahan family, a family of pioneers who crosses the United States for S ' Install in the wild West. The family is made up of Zeb Macahan, an authoritarian and courageous patriarch, his four sons and their wives.

The trip to the Macahan family begins in the Kentucky mountains, where they are driven from their farm by hostile Indians. They cross the plains and the mountains towards the west, facing dangers such as Indians, cattle thieves and highway bandits. They also meet colorful characters, such as trappers, minors and prostitutes.

Despite the obstacles, the Macahan family continues its route with determination and finally arrives in California, where they settle in a green valley and begin to cultivate the land. However, their peaceful life is short -lived because they must face new challenges, such as conflicts with Indians and wars between the various factions in the running for the control of the region.

Over the episodes, the Macahan family grows and develops, while the American West is transformed by the many immigrants and expanding economic activities. The series shows how the Macahan family and other pioneers have contributed to the conquest of the West and the training of the United States today.

Trivia

This series saw the beginnings of Tim Matheson and Bruce Boxleitner. James Arness, for the little anecdote, is the brother of Peter Graves (Jim Phelps in "Mission Impossible") and a great friend of John Wayne who sponsored him in the cinema and on television.

Adapted series of the film (1962) of the same name led by John Ford and Henry Hathaway with Carroll Baker, Lee J. Cobb, Henry Fonda and Karl Malden (the streets of San Francisco) in the role of ZĂ©bulon.

In the original version, the narration was provided by William Conrad.
