Netflix’s 3 Body Problem: A Critical Review

Netflix’s Much-Hyped Series: A Disappointing Reality

“Why should I get bent out of shape about what the world might look like 400 years from now,” questions physics research assistant Saul Durand (Jovan Adepo) in Netflix’s upcoming eight-episode series, ‘3 Body Problem’. Premiering at SXSW, the series based on Cixin Liu’s Hugo Award-winning writings falls short of its epic premise. Set to launch on March 21 globally, except for China, the show fails to deliver on its potential.

All Style, No Substance

From the Chinese Cultural Revolution to modern-day London, ‘3 Body Problem’ weaves in various elements like video games, particle accelerators, and alien invasions. However, at its core, this murder mystery with a sci-fi twist lacks the excitement and depth expected from such a high-budget production.

Unoriginal and Overdone

Despite a star-studded cast, including MCU alum Benedict Wong and ‘Game of Thrones’ veterans Jonathan Pryce and John Bradley, ‘3 Body Problem’ fails to be impactful. The series tries too hard to be serious and important but falls short of delivering a truly unique and engaging story.

A Familiar Tale

From cameos by news anchors to plot developments seen from afar, ‘3 Body Problem’ borrows heavily from other sci-fi and alien invasion narratives. The show’s lack of originality and predictability make it a forgettable addition to the genre.
