Abbi Jacobson dénonce la deuxième annulation de “A League of Their Own”

Abbi Jacobson, star and co-creator of the popular Amazon Prime series A League of Their Own, has expressed her disappointment and frustration over the show’s cancellation for a second time.

A League of Their Own: A Cult Classic Reboot

One of the standout television highlights of 2022 was Amazon Prime Video’s reboot of the cult classic film A League of Their Own, released in 1992. The original movie followed the inspiring journey of an all-women’s baseball team during World War II as they fought against gender stereotypes to establish themselves as a legitimate team. The series, which aired on Prime Video, delved even deeper into the team’s dynamics and explored the queer undertones that the original film didn’t fully explore.

Cancellation of the Second Season

After the show’s successful first season, it came as a shock to fans when news broke that the second season had been cancelled. Initially, the series had already faced cancellation shortly after its debut, but Amazon decided to renew it for a “four-episode limited series,” significantly reducing the number of episodes compared to the first season. However, TVLine reported that Amazon reversed its decision and officially scrapped the entire second season due to production delays caused by ongoing strikes involving the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA).

Abbi Jacobson’s Response

In response to the claims regarding the cancellation, Abbi Jacobson, the co-creator and star of A League of Their Own, took to Instagram to express her disagreement. She stated that blaming the show’s cancellation on the strikes was “bullshit and cowardly.” However, she emphasized that her post was not meant to focus on the issues surrounding the show and its challenges. Instead, she expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to work with incredibly talented artists, actors, writers, and crew members in creating a show that she was immensely proud of. She described the series as being filled with stories worth telling, packed with heart, soul, and inherent value.

A Loss for LGBTQ+ Representation in Media

The cancellation of A League of Their Own is particularly disheartening in an era where LGBTQ+ representation is still lacking in mainstream media. It’s another queer-led show that has met a premature end at the hands of a major studio. The loss of such an important and inclusive series is felt by both the cast and the audience.
