Dans les années 40, Dean Stockwell, encore enfant connaît déjà les joies du succès. Mais attention, ce genre de destin juvénile peut l'entraîner vers le fond du showbiz, là où grandissent douloureusement les enfants stars. Or il n'en est rien. Après 114 films, Dean Stockwell continue de tourner. Que ce soit à la télévision comme au cinéma, ce natif d'Hollywood hante la production américaine de son regard très ambiguë. Acteur discret, il n'en est pas moins talentueux. En effet Dean Stockwell a l'immense, et très rare, mérite d'avoir reçu deux fois le prix d'interprétation au festival de Cannes. C'était en 1959 pour Le Génie du Mal de Richard Fleischer et en 1962, pour Long Day's Journey Into Night de Sidney Lumet.

Dean Stockwell est un acteur américain né le 5 mars 1936 à Hollywood, en Californie. Il a débuté sa carrière d'acteur dès l'âge de six ans et a joué dans de nombreux films, séries télévisées et pièces de théâtre au cours de sa carrière de plus de soixante-dix ans. Stockwell est surtout connu pour ses rôles dans les films "Compulsion" (1959), "The Boy with Green Hair" (1948), "Blue Velvet" (1986) et "Married to the Mob" (1988). Il a également été nominé pour un Oscar pour son rôle dans le film "Long Day's Journey into Night" (1962).
Stockwell a grandi à Hollywood et a commencé sa carrière d'acteur en jouant dans des films pour enfants dans les années 1940. Il a également joué dans des séries télévisées populaires de l'époque, comme "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis" et "The Gene Autry Show". En 1959, il a joué le rôle de Judd Steiner dans le film "Compulsion", qui lui a valu une nomination pour un Golden Globe.
Au cours des années 1960, Stockwell a continué à jouer dans des films et des séries télévisées, notamment "The Long Hot Summer", "The Doctors and the Nurses" et "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.". En 1962, il a été nominé pour un Oscar pour son rôle dans "Long Day's Journey into Night", une adaptation du célèbre roman de Eugene O'Neill.
Stockwell a également joué dans des films tels que "The Time Machine" (1960), "The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming" (1966) et "The Last Movie" (1971). En 1986, il a joué le rôle de Ben dans "Blue Velvet", un film de David Lynch qui a été acclamé par la critique. Il a également joué dans "Married to the Mob" (1988), un film comique avec Michelle Pfeiffer et Alec Baldwin.
