Cinq personnes blessées par balles à l’Université Morgan State

Violence erupted on the campus of Morgan State University during its annual homecoming event, leaving five people injured in a shooting. The incident occurred after the crowning of Mister and Miss Morgan State, a longstanding tradition at the historic Black college in Baltimore, Maryland.

Gunfire at the Murphy Arts Center

As attendees were exiting the auditorium at the Murphy Arts Center to attend a coronation ball in another building nearby, gunshots rang out. Baltimore PD officers who were patrolling the grounds heard the shots and immediately responded to the scene.

Active Shooter Reported

Police officers quickly warned of an active shooter in the area, urging everyone to seek shelter. Authorities discovered the shooting victims shortly after, four men and one woman between the ages of 18 and 22. Thankfully, all of the victims sustained non life-threatening injuries.

Manhunt and Investigation

A SWAT team conducted an extensive search for the gunman, but they were unable to locate the suspect. Police officials have not ruled out the possibility of multiple assailants involved in the incident. However, they have confirmed that there is no longer an active shooter on campus, and the shelter in place order was lifted early Wednesday morning.

Classes Canceled

In response to the shooting, Morgan State University made the decision to cancel all classes for the day. The safety and well-being of students, faculty, and staff remains a top priority for the university.

This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing issue of gun violence and the need for increased safety measures, both on college campuses and in society as a whole. Investigations into the shooting are still ongoing, and authorities are working diligently to identify and apprehend those responsible.
