Doctor Who is back with a bang!

Doctor Who is officially making a grand return on Saturday, November 25, with the first of three 60th anniversary specials. And that’s not all! Fans can expect a brand new title sequence and an updated theme song to accompany the anticipated return of the show.

A brand new title sequence and theme song

The new title sequence, complete with an updated theme song, promises to captivate viewers—all with the Doctor’s famous TARDIS careening across space and through a cloudy wormhole tunnel. Composer Murray Gold is behind the new theme, making a grand comeback after his departure as the show’s music director in 2017.

“I’m so happy to be invited back for another joyful ride in the TARDIS,” Gold previously said in a statement after the BBC announced his return to the show.

Return of familiar faces

The return of the franchise also sees the comeback of Russell T. Davies as the showrunner for the anniversary specials and upcoming 14th season. Additionally, David Tennant is back as The Doctor with Catherine Tate reprising her role as his companion, Donna Noble.

Tennant and Tate are set to star in all three specials, each promising exciting adventures and the return of familiar characters like Donna’s mother, Sylvia, and her husband, Shaun, with newcomer Yasmin Finney joining the cast as their daughter, Rose.

The upcoming specials

The second special, “Wild Blue Yonder,” is set to air on Saturday, December 2, with the third and final special, “The Giggle,” set to air on Saturday, December 9. Viewers can also look forward to Neil Patrick Harris making his Doctor Who debut as the infamous villain, The Toymaker.

But that’s not all! The details of the second special remain tightly under wraps. The synopsis simply teases, “The TARDIS takes the Doctor and Donna to the furthest edge of adventure. To escape, they must face the most desperate fight of their lives, with the fate of the universe at stake.” Do not miss these thrilling episodes!
