Disney+ releases trailer for Jim Henson: Idea Man

Disney+ has unveiled the trailer for Jim Henson: Idea Man, a forthcoming documentary about the renowned puppeteer and creator. The documentary, directed by Ron Howard, is scheduled to premiere on May 31st. Jim Henson: Idea Man promises to offer a comprehensive look at Henson’s life and contributions, including his work on The Muppets, Sesame Street, and classic films like Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal.

Overview of Jim Henson: Idea Man

According to Disney+, Jim Henson: Idea Man delves into the creative mind of this visionary artist, tracing his journey from local television puppeteering to international acclaim with projects like Sesame Street and The Muppet Show. The documentary provides viewers with unprecedented access to Henson’s personal archives, offering a unique insight into the man behind the magic.

“If there was going to be a definitive documentary about Jim Henson, we had hoped it would be in the hands of an accomplished filmmaker,” said Lisa Henson, CEO of the Jim Henson Company.

“It was sort of anarchy on the outside, but underneath it, there was always a smart idea — a witty point to make, an observation about the world,” remarked Ron Howard. “To see that evolve through the medium of puppetry and television, and then on into movies, was so interesting to me.”

Legacy and Production Details

Despite his untimely death in 1990, Jim Henson’s legacy endures. Disney acquired the rights to the Muppets in 2004, ensuring that his creations live on. Ron Howard serves as both director and producer of this documentary, with a team of accomplished filmmakers working behind the scenes to bring Henson’s story to life.

The film is produced by Brian Grazer, Margaret Brodde, Sara Bernstein, Justine Wilkes, Michael Rosenberg, Marjon Javadi, and Mark Monroe. Paul Crowder is the editor and executive producer of the project.
