Disney+ UK and Northern Ireland Screen Launch Development Fund for Local Independent Production Companies
Disney+ UK and Northern Ireland Screen have announced the launch of a development fund aimed at supporting and nurturing the production sector in Northern Ireland. This initiative aims to provide opportunities for local independent production companies to pitch and receive funding to create female-skewed, factual, single films centered on Northern Irish, Irish, or British subject matter.
The development fund will be awarded to up to five successful Northern Ireland-based indies, who will also have the chance to receive one-on-one creative sessions with Sean Doyle, director of unscripted for Disney+ EMEA, for a period of development up to 12 months.
Opportunities for Northern Ireland-based Indies
Local independent production companies in Northern Ireland are invited to pitch their ideas for a chance to receive financial support and creative guidance from Disney+ UK and Northern Ireland Screen. The fund is specifically targeted at female-skewed, factual, single films that highlight the unique cultural and historical aspects of Northern Irish, Irish, or British subject matter. This initiative aims to not only provide financial support but also to foster creative collaboration and talent development within the region.
Sean Doyle, director of unscripted for Disney+ EMEA, emphasized the exciting opportunity for both the local creative talent in Northern Ireland and Disney+ to continue developing bold, local stories across unscripted content with outstanding creators and producers in local markets. This collaboration aligns with Disney+’s commitment to sourcing, developing, and producing original local productions in Europe.
Collaboration and Commitment to Local Original Productions
The partnership between Disney+ UK and Northern Ireland Screen reflects the commitment to sourcing, developing, and producing local original content in Europe. This initiative provides a platform for UK original productions, showcasing a diverse range of storytelling, including Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story, Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story, Finding Michael, Save Our Squad with David Beckham, Culprits, The Full Monty, and Extraordinary.
More information on how to submit pitches will be published on the Northern Ireland Screen website on December 1, along with terms and conditions and the submission deadline, providing local independent production companies with a clear pathway to access this development fund and bring their creative visions to life.
