Marvel Studios’ New Sign Language Poster for Echo Released

Marvel Studios is set to release a new sign language poster for Echo, the first project of 2024. This series will be following Maya Lopez/Echo, the character who first appeared in the MCU in Hawkeye. The depiction in the MCU is somewhat different from the comics, but some significant similarities remain. One of which is that Maya is deaf in both the comics and the Marvel shows, which is something Marvel has honored with a sign language poster.

This new series will be available on Disney+ and Hulu. The character of Echo first appeared in Daredevil #9 in 1999 and was created by David Mack and Joe Quesada. Although the MCU’s version of Echo may differ somewhat from the comics character, some important similarities exist.

Echo Director Emphasizes Authenticity

During a press event for Echo, director and executive producer Sydney Freeland discussed the importance of representing both the deaf community and the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. The Echo production team made efforts to include diverse representation, which began within the writer’s room before extending to behind the scenes and front of the camera.

One of the key aspects taken into account by the director was the importance of accurately representing the Choctaw people and culture. The production established a partnership with the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma in order to ensure an authentic portrayal of their community.

Echo is set to be released on Disney+ and Hulu on January 9th and will be available until April 9th on Hulu.
