Paramount Plus Removes Jodie Whittaker’s Series One Night from Streaming Platform

All six episodes of the thrilling series One Night, starring Jodie Whittaker, have been removed from streaming service Paramount Plus. The show, which only premiered last year, is one of several original international dramas that have been taken off the platform, including The Burning Girls, The Killing Kind, and The Serial Killer’s Wife. This decision is part of Paramount’s strategy shift to favor its Hollywood-style content and wider cost-saving efforts.

Australian series One Night starred Whittaker alongside Nicole da Silva (Wentworth) and Yael Stone (Orange is the New Black), portraying three friends who reunite 20 years after a traumatic event destroyed their bond, when one of them writes a novel about those events. It arrived on Paramount Plus in the UK last November, following its airing in Australia earlier in 2023.

Speaking to Radio Times magazine at the time of the UK premiere, Whittaker revealed what attracted her to the series, stating: “The use of our younger versions within scenes, of flashbacks and memory; the celebration and complication of friendship; the exploration of trauma… I found that intoxicating. Horrific sexual assaults against women are shown on television all the time, but this point of view hasn’t been explored before in anything I’d seen.”

Implications of the Removal

The removal of One Night and other international dramas from Paramount Plus raises questions about their content strategy and the future availability of such shows for viewers. This decision may also impact the visibility of these series and how audiences access them.

What’s Next for the Series and Its Stars

With the removal of One Night from Paramount Plus, fans of the series and its cast may wonder about the future availability of the show and the potential impact on the careers of Jodie Whittaker, Nicole da Silva, and Yael Stone. It remains to be seen whether the series will find a new platform for distribution or if this marks the end of its availability for audiences.
