La fin définitive d’iTunes grâce à la nouvelle app Apple TV (oui, iTunes était encore là)

Apple is making yet another attempt to streamline its TV app, aiming to create a one-stop destination for all your TV and movie entertainment. In the past, Apple has tried to achieve this goal with the stand-alone TV app in 2016 and the all-new TV app in 2019, but this time it seems to be doing it properly. The new TV app will integrate Apple TV Plus, third-party streaming services, and the iTunes Store into one unified platform.
The Problem with Apple’s Current Apps
Currently, on Apple TV 4K, there are three separate TV and movie apps: the TV app, the TV Shows app, and the iTunes Movies app. The TV app integrates Apple TV Plus and various third-party streaming services, while the TV Shows and iTunes Movies apps connect to the respective sections of the iTunes Store. However, these separate apps are set to be phased out. In the future, all TV shows and movies will be accessible through the TV app.
Benefits of the App Update
The news of this upcoming app update comes from Bloomberg, which reports that Apple aims to provide customers with a single app to find all their video content. The update is expected to roll out in a tvOS update scheduled for December. This app update is long overdue as the current TV app already handles TV and movie purchasing and rentals. By consolidating all TV and movie content into one app, Apple is simplifying the user experience and eliminating the need for multiple apps.
Furthermore, the main Apple TV app also includes third-party subscription services. This is significant because streaming app platforms, such as Amazon Prime Video, are striving to remove barriers and make content more accessible. Instead of navigating through multiple apps, users can access various content from different sources using a single app and their Amazon or Apple account.
The Netflix Dilemma
However, one major streaming platform that is not included in Apple’s recommendations within the TV app is Netflix. To browse new content on Netflix, users must launch the dedicated Netflix app. While it is understandable that Netflix wants to maintain its separate identity, this might be counterproductive. In my personal experience, Netflix is often my last resort when searching for something to watch on Apple TV. The integration of Netflix into the TV app could potentially improve discoverability for Netflix subscribers and make the browsing experience more seamless.
In conclusion, Apple’s efforts to streamline and unify its TV app are a step in the right direction. By consolidating TV and movie content from various sources into one app, Apple is improving the user experience and eliminating the need for multiple apps. The upcoming app update has the potential to simplify the way we consume entertainment, but the exclusion of Netflix from Apple’s recommendations remains a notable drawback.
