La gestuelle double tap de l’Apple Watch désormais disponible avec watchOS 10.1

Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 users can now enjoy a new double tap gesture with the latest watchOS 10.1 update. This gesture allows for a fast and convenient way to interact with the Apple Watch, without the need to touch the display. Whether you’re walking the dog, cooking, or holding a cup of coffee, the double tap gesture provides a helpful solution in situations when your other hand is occupied.

A Convenient, Delightful Experience

The double tap gesture offers users the ability to perform various actions with just one hand. By tapping the index finger and thumb together twice, users can easily accomplish tasks such as opening the Smart Stack, answering and ending phone calls, viewing and replying to notifications, controlling timers and stopwatches, snoozing alarms, playing and pausing media, and much more. This new feature complements existing gestures and enhances the overall user experience of the Apple Watch.

Powered by S9 SiP

The double tap gesture is made possible by the powerful S9 SiP found in Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2. This SiP is 25 percent more power efficient than previous generations and features a new 4-core Neural Engine that performs machine learning tasks twice as fast. The Neural Engine, along with specialized algorithms, processes data from various sensors in the Apple Watch to detect the unique wrist movements and changes in blood flow associated with the double tap gesture. And despite the added functionality, the gesture has minimal impact on the impressive battery life of the Apple Watch.

Double Tap Gesture Customizations

The double tap gesture is designed to automatically select the primary action for most apps and notifications. However, users have the ability to customize the gesture in two specific instances. They can choose to advance through widgets in the Smart Stack or select the first available widget. Additionally, during media playback, users can play or pause the media or skip to the next track with a double tap.

Availability

The watchOS 10.1 update is now available for Apple Watch Series 4 and later. The update requires an iPhone XS or later running iOS 17. The double tap gesture is enabled by default on Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 with watchOS 10.1, and no additional setup is required. However, users have the option to disable the gesture in the settings. It’s important to note that the double tap gesture is not supported in certain apps and experiences, such as ECG, Heart Rate, Blood Oxygen, Sleep Focus, Walkie-Talkie, Maps during navigation, Mindfulness during an active session, and SOS features.
