Totally Spies!, the animated cult classic series from 2001, is making a comeback on Amazon with a new format. Details of the Live-Action Adaptation
The new live-action adaptation of Totally Spies! is currently in development at Amazon, in collaboration with MGM Studios and Banijay Kids & Family. The series is aimed at a young adult audience and will focus on best friends Clover, Alex, and Sam as they juggle the responsibilities of being international spies and college students.
No writers have been announced for the project yet, but executive producers Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor from Gloria Sanchez Productions are on board alongside Will Ferrell. Benoît Di Sabatino, CEO of Banijay Kids & Family, is also serving as an executive producer for the studio.
Potential for Success
Although live-action reboots of animated properties don’t always hit the mark, Totally Spies! has a strong team behind it. With the support of Amazon MGM Studios and Gloria Sanchez Productions, the series has the potential to break the trend of failed live-action adaptations.
Recent failures like the live-action adaptation of The Powerpuff Girls and The Fairly OddParents serve as cautionary tales, but Totally Spies! aims to set itself apart. Amazon has also greenlit two seasons of Batman: Caped Crusader, showcasing its commitment to animated adaptations.
