Marvel Studios and the Future of Special Presentations

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has confirmed that more Marvel Studios Special Presentations are on the way. These specials are similar to the theatrical movies and Disney+ series, aiming to tell contained stories that experiment with genre and style while introducing more obscure characters.

What to Expect in Future Marvel Studios Special Presentations

As part of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the first two hour-long specials — Werewolf by Night and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special — were well-received upon their release on Disney+. Despite no new Special Presentation set for 2023 or 2024, Feige reassured fans that more specials are in development.

Feige mentioned that Marvel is actively working on a new Special Presentation, but unfortunately, fans will have to wait until at least 2026 for its release.

Success of Past Special Presentations

Both Werewolf by Night and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special were positively received by critics and fans. The former focuses on a group of monster hunters caught in a deadly competition for a powerful relic, using practical effects and black-and-white cinematography reminiscent of classic monster movies.

The latter follows the cosmic team of The Guardians of the Galaxy in search of a present for Peter Quill, with a unique Christmas theme and the inclusion of Kevin Bacon playing a fictionalized version of himself.

Both Werewolf by Night and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special are available for streaming on Disney+.
