Expansion of The Boys Universe

A year after the animated spin-off series, The Boys Presents: Diabolical, another new spin-off series is in development. Set in Mexico, the series has tentatively been titled The Boys: Mexico and is currently being developed at Amazon MGM Studios.

The series has already attracted significant talent, with Blue Beetle writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer serving as creator, writer, and executive producer. In addition, Andor star Diego Luna and Werewolf by Night star Gael García Bernal have signed on as executive producers. There are even talks of Luna and Bernal taking on acting roles in the series, albeit not as major characters.

Behind the Scenes

As the creators continue to work out the budget for the new series, they are also on the lookout for a co-showrunner to join Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. The series will be filmed on location in Mexico, marking an expansion of The Boys on-screen universe to a Latin American setting. Casting has yet to begin, but the production is in full swing.

On the production side, The Boys: Mexico will involve several key players, including series creator Eric Kripke and his production company Kripke Enterprises, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg‘s Point Grey Pictures, Neil H. Mortiz’s Original Film, Sony Pictures Television, and Amazon MGM Studios. Loreli Alba is expected to oversee the project for Point Grey.

The Boys’ Universe So Far

The Boys series, based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, premiered in 2019 and quickly gained a large following. The show follows a group of vigilantes as they take on corrupt celebrity superheroes who abuse their fame and power. With three seasons already released and a fourth on the way, the series has proven to be a hit.

In addition to the main series, The Boys universe has expanded with an animated spin-off series, The Boys Presents: Diabolical, and Gen V, a fully-canon, live-action spin-off series which premiered earlier this year. The addition of The Boys: Mexico is part of the ongoing expansion of this popular and unique universe.
