Dylan Shakes’ memorial… and rebirth
A significant portion of the episode revolves around a memorial for Dylan Shakes, a friend of Mickey’s father who disappeared when they were children. Ema, a friend of Mickey’s, is absent from the memorial due to a betrayal by her former friend Whitney. The memorial becomes a gathering of suspicious figures, each with their own secrets:
- Doctor Kent reveals to Mickey and Arthur that Dylan’s father did something unforgivable on the day Dylan disappeared.
- Dylan’s father admits to Mrs. Friedman that he didn’t kill Dylan, but he does remember causing his son’s eye injury.
- The Butcher runs away before Mickey can catch him.
- Mickey discovers that Sunglasses Man is actually Dylan Shakes, who survived his father’s abuse and found refuge with the Bat Lady.
The revelation of Dylan’s survival shocks Mickey, and he learns about his parents’ involvement in rescuing children from child traffickers. Dylan believes that Mickey is being prepared to continue his father’s mission, starting with the rescue of Ashley.
Mickey Impossible
Mickey follows the octopus-faced man to a bar and is taken away by a server named Candy. Candy reveals that Ashley is being held captive in “The Dungeon,” but warns against attempting a rescue. Mickey ignores her advice and tries to save Ashley, but ends up being captured and beaten by henchmen.
Surprisingly, their leader reveals herself to be a former associate of Mickey’s father and offers to help him escape and rescue Ashley. However, it soon becomes clear that this was a double-cross, and Mickey’s denial of his father’s existence leads to his life being endangered.
In a desperate escape attempt, Mickey fights back, escaping into the sea and evading his pursuers.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Friedman visits the Bat Lady house, where Sunglasses Man reveals his true identity as Dylan Shakes.
A divorce and a redeemed man
Hannah Taylor, staying at Shira’s house, confesses to her husband Ken that she has been having an affair. Ken, unaware of the full extent of the affair, tries to make amends, but later announces at the memorial that Hannah has asked for a divorce.
Troy, another member of the family, seeks redemption as well and expresses his desire to be a better boyfriend to his on-again-off-again girlfriend Rachel.
Shira reveals to Mickey that she was the bully who trapped his father in the Bat Lady house. She apologizes for her actions and promises to help Mickey uncover the truth by exhuming his father’s body. Shira confides in Hannah about her doubts regarding Mickey’s father’s death.
Despite Shira’s confession, tension arises when Hannah confronts her about the divorce, leading to a vulnerable declaration of love from Hannah. The episode ends before we learn Shira’s response.
