Ricky Gervais critique les détracteurs de son spectacle Netflix suite à une pétition pour retirer une blague

Ricky Gervais “Armageddon” Netflix Special Faces Backlash Over Controversial Joke
Ricky Gervais, the famous stand-up comedian, has recently come under fire for a controversial joke included in his upcoming Netflix special, “Armageddon.”
In the video teaser for the special, Gervais references his work with terminally ill children through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, jokingly calling them “baldy.”
The controversial nature of the joke has led to a petition being created to demand Netflix remove Gervais’ skit from the special, with thousands of signatures already.
Gervais’ Response to the Criticism
Ricky Gervais addressed the criticism during an interview, explaining that his jokes were meant to be taken as such and were in no way reflective of his actual interaction with terminally ill patients.
He also posted a disclaimer, warning viewers about the content of his Netflix special by highlighting that it touches on sensitive topics, and viewers who do not approve of such humor should refrain from watching it.
During an appearance on BBC Radio’s “Headliners” podcast, Gervais defended his comedy, arguing that his critics’ reactions were often based on feelings rather than rational analysis.
Controversy and Comedy
Gervais further commented that, as a comedian, he expects to offend people at times, and that criticism does not deter him from continuing to deliver his brand of humor.
Representatives for Gervais and Netflix have not yet responded to the backlash against the upcoming comedy special.
