Tout savoir sur “Goosebumps” sur Disney+

“Goosebumps”, the beloved children’s horror book series by R.L. Stine, is getting a fresh new adaptation on Disney+ and Hulu. This new series takes a different approach by featuring a more diverse cast and setting the story in present times. With a mix of horror, comedy, and drama, the show aims to appeal to a wide audience of both longtime fans and newcomers.

A Blend of Horror and Comedy

The creators of the new “Goosebumps” series wanted to capture the essence of the books by maintaining a balance between horror and comedy. Each episode explores different subgenres of horror while maintaining a grounded and cinematic production aesthetic. The aim is to create a textured and realistic world that enhances the supernatural elements of the story.

A Serialized Storyline

Unlike the original books, which were largely standalone stories, the new series follows the same characters across multiple episodes. The first five episodes serve as origin stories for the main characters, with their stories intertwining by the end of episode five. The following episodes then delve deeper into the mysteries and events that have affected them.

Aging Up the Characters

In order to appeal to a wider range of viewers, the creators decided to age up the characters from the books. By making them high school students instead of middle schoolers, the show can cater to adult fans of the original books, young teens who are currently reading the series, and new audiences who may not be familiar with “Goosebumps”. The high school setting also adds a thematic element, as the challenges of being a teenager can be just as terrifying as supernatural occurrences.

The Source Material

The new series draws inspiration from five popular “Goosebumps” books for its first season: “Say Cheese and Die!”, “The Haunted Mask”, “The Cuckoo Clock of Doom”, “Go Eat Worms!”, and “Night of the Living Dummy”. While the stories have been updated for a present-day setting, fans can still expect to see familiar elements from the original series, including the iconic villain Slappy the Dummy.

A Present-Day Setting

Although the events of the new series were kick-started in 1993, the majority of the story takes place in the present. The creators wanted to make the show relatable to current audiences by incorporating modern references like cellphones and popular songs. While there are nods to the 1990s throughout the series, the focus is on creating an earnest and contemporary high school story, rather than relying on nostalgic jokes or parodies.

R.L. Stine’s Approval

R.L. Stine, the original author of the “Goosebumps” books, was closely involved in the creation of the new series. He provided guidance and gave his blessing to the project, ensuring that the adaptation stayed true to the spirit of his original work. With Stine’s support, the creators of the new “Goosebumps” series hope to continue making more seasons in the future.
