Apple rolls out new version of tvOS with redesigned Apple TV app

Apple has recently released a new version of tvOS, bringing a major redesign to the core Apple TV app. The update includes a new sidebar that integrates content from Apple’s services, third-party channels, and apps.

Redesigned Apple TV app

The new version of the Apple TV app features a sidebar that combines content from Apple’s own services, such as Apple TV+, MLS Season Pass, a Store for purchasing and renting popular movies, and access to third-party channels and apps like Disney+ and Max. The redesign aims to improve navigation and discoverability while maintaining the familiar tile browsing format.

Improved user experience

The sidebar on living room devices, including Apple TV hardware and the app on smart TVs, now includes profiles. This allows users to switch between profiles for personalized recommendations across the app and in the Up Next section. Additionally, the Watch Now section has been rebranded as Home, creating a more user-friendly experience.

Enhanced features

The Apple TV app’s Store tab is now the go-to destination for buying or renting movies and TV shows. Users will be redirected to the Store tab from the iTunes Movies and TV Shows apps on Apple TV devices, as well as the iTunes Store app on iPhone and iPad to manage their purchases. Moreover, Apple TV 4K devices now support direct FaceTime calls and FaceTime audio calls, adding further functionality to the platform.
