Cyberbunker : plongez dans l’univers mystérieux des hackers sur Netflix

Netflix’s upcoming docuseries Cyberbunker: The Criminal Underground is set to be an intense and gripping watch. The trailer sets the tone with a suspenseful scene in a dark forest, where armed figures lurk ominously. As the lights reveal them to be police officers, we are taken on a journey through a mysterious abandoned bunker. However, this is no ordinary bunker. While the criminal activity that took place within it may not be visually captivating like some other popular Netflix documentaries, the story behind it is undoubtedly worth telling.
What is the Cyberbunker?
Based on a true story, Cyberbunker tells the tale of a small group of hackers who built a criminal empire within the depths of the Dark Web. Operating from an abandoned bunker, they orchestrated illegal activities until they were eventually tracked down and apprehended by Germany’s federal paramilitary police – the same figures we see in the trailer. The raid resulted in the seizure of a vast amount of digital and physical evidence, including hard drives, servers, laptops, phones, and even a significant sum of cash. The operation involved hundreds of officers.
Although the story is undeniably fascinating, I fear that the trailer may mislead viewers by portraying hacking as an inherently exciting and action-packed endeavor. This misrepresentation of hacking is a common trope perpetuated by numerous documentaries and movies, often resorting to clichéd images of hooded figures smashing laptops with hammers and chisels or glamorous hackers in stylish attire. However, I hope that Cyberbunker differs from these tired tropes and approaches its subject matter in a more nuanced manner.
I believe there is potential for Cyberbunker to follow in the footsteps of another notable Netflix documentary, The Great Hack. This film explores the sinister side of social media and the manipulation of personal data during the 2016 US presidential election. Despite the lack of guns and action sequences, The Great Hack effectively conveys its message and received critical acclaim, earning Emmy and BAFTA nominations as well as recognition from the International Documentary Association. I hope that Cyberbunker similarly prioritizes storytelling and substance over spectacle.
Cyberbunker: The Criminal Underground will be available for streaming on Netflix starting from November 8. If you enjoy gripping and thought-provoking documentaries, this series is definitely worth adding to your watchlist.
