Apple TV+ original series: first-look photos from the TCAs

Apple TV+ has unveiled first-look photos of several upcoming Originals at the TCAs. The series includes Sugar, Presumed Innocent, Dark Matter, Franklin, and Land of Women.

Sugar: starring Colin Farrell

Colin Farrell stars in Sugar, an 8-episode Apple TV+ drama premiering on April 5. The show features Farrell as John Sugar, a private investigator entangled in the disappearance mystery of Olivia Siegel, Hollywood producer Jonathan Siegel’s granddaughter. The storyline offers a modern twist on the traditional detective genre. The series introduces an ensemble cast, including Kirby, Amy Ryan, James Cromwell, Anna Gunn, Dennis Boutsikaris, Nate Corddry, Sydney Chandler, and Alex Hernandez. Weekly episodes are scheduled for release on Fridays, following the initial three on the premiere date.

Presumed Innocent: with Jake Gyllenhaal

Jake Gyllenhaal stars and executive produces Presumed Innocent, a limited series based on Scott Turow’s bestselling novel. The show, premiering on June 14, centers on chief deputy prosecutor Rusty Sabich, portrayed by Gyllenhaal, as he confronts a murder that shakes the Chicago Prosecuting Attorney’s office. The series explores themes of obsession, sex, politics, and the dynamics of love. The ensemble cast features Ruth Negga, Bill Camp, Elizabeth Marvel, Peter Sarsgaard, O-T Fagbenle, and Renate Reinsve. Episodes are released every Friday, with the first two on the debut date and subsequent ones through July 26.

Dark Matter: a sci-fi thriller

Dark Matter is a sci-fi thriller adapted from Blake Crouch’s bestselling novel. The 9-episode show stars Joel Edgerton, Jennifer Connelly, Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson, Dayo Okeniyi, and Oakes Fegley and it’s set to premiere on May 8. The storyline delves into the concept of the road not taken, following Jason Dessen, a physicist abducted into an alternate version of his life while walking in Chicago. The episodes are set to be released every Wednesday from May 8 to June 26, starting with the first two on the debut date. The series delves into Dessen’s challenges in navigating a labyrinth of alternate realities to reunite with his true family and confront a formidable adversary: himself.

Franklin: starring Michael Douglas

Franklin premieres on April 12 and is another limited series from the streamer starring and executive produced by Michael Douglas. The 8-episode season kicks off with the first three episodes, followed by a new episode every Friday until May 17. Based on “A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America” by Stacy Schiff, the series explores Benjamin Franklin’s daring mission to France in December 1776, a pivotal moment in the struggle for American independence. Noah Jupe, Thibault de Montalembert, Daniel Mays, and Ludivine Sagnier also star in the show.

Land of Women: featuring Eva Longoria

Land of Women, a 6 episode dramedy series starring and executive produced by Eva Longoria, is set to premiere this summer. The show, filmed in English and Spanish, follows Longoria as Gala, a New York empty nester who, alongside her aging mother (Carmen Maura) and college-age daughter (Victoria Bazúa), is forced to escape the city due to financial troubles caused by her husband. Set in a charming wine town in northern Spain, the three women attempt to start anew, but family secrets unravel as small-town gossip spreads. The show is available in both languages.
