Disney+ Hotstar perd 28 lakh abonnés au cours du trimestre de septembre

Disney+Hotstar Reportedly Loses 28 Lakh Subscribers in India
Walt Disney – the parent company of Disney+Hotstar – reported a significant loss in subscribers for its India units in the quarter ending September. The streaming giant’s subscriber count dropped by 28 lakh, standing at 3.76 crore at the end of September, a 7% decrease from the previous quarter’s count of 4.04 crore.
The loss in subscribers is attributed to the company losing the IPL rights, resulting in a loss of close to 2.3 crore subscribers in the past year.
Growth in Disney+ Core Subscribers and Revenue Increase
On the positive side, Disney+ core subscribers (excluding Hotstar) grew by 7% to 11.26 crore in the September quarter. Additionally, Disney+ Hotstar’s average monthly revenue per paid subscriber saw an increase from $0.59 (₹48.38) to $0.70 (₹57.4). The company attributed this growth to a lower mix of wholesale subscribers and higher advertising revenue.
Star India’s Revenue Takes a Hit
Star India, a subsidiary of Walt Disney, also faced a 21% year-over-year decrease in revenue in the September quarter. The sports broadcasting unit’s revenue stood at $92 million (₹754.4 crore), down from the $116 million (₹951.2 crore) reported in the same quarter last year. Profits dropped by 30% YoY to $12 million (₹98.4 crore).
These results come at a time when Walt Disney is reportedly considering selling off its India business, with several big players like Gautam Adani and Kalanithi Maran in talks, but media reports suggest that Mukesh Ambani is the frontrunner.
