In Spring 2021, Sony Pictures and Netflix signed an exclusivity agreement, allowing Netflix access to Sony’s latest releases. The arrival of Frozen Empire on Netflix comes four months after its theatrical release.

An upcoming animated series based on Ghostbusters

Sony Pictures Animation is currently developing an animated series based on the Ghostbusters franchise. Executive producers for the series include Frozen Empire director Gil Kenan and Ghostbusters: Afterlife director Jason Reitman.

While specific details about the series remain vague, Reitman mentioned in a previous interview that it will explore an unexplored era and decade of the Ghostbusters canon.

Kenan, in promoting Frozen Empire, shared an update on the series, highlighting the progress being made in terms of set design, character creation, and script development.
