Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire director updates fans on upcoming animated series

Gil Kenan, the director of Frozen Empire, has recently shared some exciting news with fans of the Ghostbusters franchise. According to Kenan, a new animated Ghostbusters series is currently in full development and is set to be released on Netflix.

“I just watched an entire art presentation for the show,” Kenan revealed. “I’ve seen the sets and the environments, and I just saw my first glimpse at a world of supernatural characters as realized by our brilliant creative team. All I can say is the work is being done as we speak. It’s in what we call full development. Scripts are being written, art is being created, and it’s a great time to be a Ghostbuster.”

Executive producers and filling in gaps in Ghostbusters lore

Kenan will be serving as an executive producer for the new show alongside Jason Reitman. The upcoming series has been described as one that will fill in gaps in the Ghostbusters lore, exploring an unexplored era and decade of the franchise’s history.

The Ghostbusters animated series on Netflix will be the third in the franchise, following The Real Ghostbusters and Extreme Ghostbusters.

Frozen Empire breaks records and critical reception

Frozen Empire, the latest Ghostbusters installment directed by Gil Kenan, has already made waves in the box office. The film earned $45 million domestically in its opening weekend, ranking as one of the most successful films in the franchise. However, it also received mixed reviews, currently standing at 44% on Rotten Tomatoes, the lowest score in the entire franchise.

Despite the mixed critical reception, Frozen Empire had a higher budget than its predecessor, reaching $100 million. This opens up the possibility of future Ghostbusters adventures for fans.
